'Food processing plants in Purandar taluka have brought a ray of hope to farmers who hitherto had limited avenues for selling their highly perishable fruits such as figs, custard apple, guava etc. Around 25 big and small food processing units have come up in the area in the last two-three years. Some of them have also ventured into bread spreads, cakes, ready-to-drink juice, desserts etc. Around 1,000 to 1,500 people are directly or indirectly associated with food processing in Purandar. Farmers are also earning well by selling their produce to these units. Some of these units have been set up by farmers producer organisations. Food processing industries have ensured that there is a demand for even second and third-grade varieties. Earlier, farmers had to sell them at throwaway prices #Pune #Food #punenews Subscribe to The Times of India\'s YouTube channel: http://goo.gl/WgIatu For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TimesofIndia Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timesofindia/ Download the app: http://toi.in/3SLUCa80 Follow TOI+ for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/timesofindiaplus Twitter: https://twitter.com/TOIPlus Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/toi_plus/'
