'In January of 2019, I had the pleasure of spending twelve incredible days in Japan. In almost no time, it became one of my all-time favorite travel destinations. Despite the huge number of people who live there and commute through its cities every day, everything is surprisingly clean and orderly, the food is sensational, the culture is completely unique, and the people are quite helpful and friendly. Come along with me and find out why I love this country so much! Follow Javier on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/xshidoshix/ With two days in Kyoto now in my rearview mirror, I was already in the third city of my Japanese trip, Osaka! After arriving in town and getting to my Airbnb that evening, I was pretty hungry, so I linked back up with my fellow Miami boy Javier and set out to explore the Dotonbori area and try some of their world-famous street food for dinner at some food stalls and izakayas! My Film Making Kit ► https://kit.com/davidsbeenhere Dotonbori is like the Times Square area of Osaka. There are never-ending lights and neon signs and tons of people. It’s such a sensory overload! The first place we visited was a stall selling takoyaki, or octopus balls, which is a food I wanted to try in Tokyo, but eventually had for the first time in Kyoto. They’re made of a batter and chunks of grilled octopus meat, which is turned over and over as it cooks until it becomes a chewy ball of dough. They’re topped with sauces and bonito flakes and are so succulent and creamy! I also had one with bacon and cheese that was equally amazing and was like a creamy croqueta. Next, we went for some okonomiyaki (a cabbage pancake with batter and your choice of fillings) and some beer at a popular local restaurant! My beer cost nearly as much as the okonomiyaki! This okonomiyaki contained shrimp and was topped with bonito flakes. It’s like delicious scrambled eggs with shrimp! The sauce was reminiscent of teriyaki sauce. Next, we added a different sauce and some habanero hot sauce. It was hot, and like a mix of tabasco sauce and buffalo sauce! After we finished, we called the clerk and got our total, 2,548 Yen/$22.88 U.S. After that, it was time for some more street food. We got a pork bun from a streetside stall. This is a Chinese dish I ate a lot during my time in Shanghai. Inside the bun was a lot of incredibly tender and flavorful pork. I love pork buns! I was starting to get full, but I still had room in my belly for one of my favorites, yakitori! The place we went to sold one piece for just 50 cents, which is an amazing bargain! We ordered two chicken and leek skewers each. While we waited for it to cook, we tried a potato salad-like dish that was brought to our table. It’s kind of unfair, because they bring it to your table and charge you for it whether you eat it or not, so since they were charging us, I ate it! We also got a chilled sake (400 Yen/$3.59 U.S.), which was amazing! I love cold sake. It was so light, it almost tasted like water! Then it was time for the yakitori, which consisted of grilled chicken and leeks. It was nice and juicy with a tasty sauce. I loved it! From there, Javi and I walked over to the river and then headed over to an izakaya. On our way, we headed down a vibrant, brightly lit street. At the izakaya, I got a Hub ale, which wasn’t very strong, but the other drinks I tried were super strong! After our drinks, we headed back out into the cold, where we ended our night by watching a guy playing the electric guitar right out on the street!
