'My 11 month old will chew food, but then spit it out. How can I get him to stop?'

'You mentioned that you have an 11 month old little boy who puts food in his mouth, he seems eager to eat, but then he just spits everything out. You said he\'s been doing this for 1 to 2 months, and obviously that\'s concerning, because it could lead to malnourishment or dehydration. So I do recommend talking with the pediatrician about it, and there\'s probably a few different causes they\'ll consider. The first is just behavioral. Sometimes kids do things like that to get a reaction out of us. And whether it\'s good or bad, they like our responses, they like attention. So if you\'re responding to it by yelling at him or something, then maybe evaluate that, and see, if you do nothing, if he stops. It could be that. And also talk to him about it. Maybe just give him a firm \"No\" when he does it, and furrow your brow, because, at 11 months old, he may not understand exactly what you\'re saying, but he does understand nonverbal cues, and will learn that that\'s not a behavior that he should continue to do. Another possible cause is pickiness. He may just not like what he\'s eating. But your job, as a parent, is to just put healthy options in front of him at each meal - breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and for snacks in the morning and afternoon. And then his job is to pick what he\'s going to eat and how much of it he\'s going to eat. If he\'s spitting everything out though, then that is a problem. It might be like some type of aversion to different textures. It could also possibly be a problem with swallowing. So I do recommend, again, talking with the pediatrician, and they\'ll help you get to the bottom of it and decide what the cause is, and based on that, recommend possible action plans to help him eat, especially if he\'s not growing and gaining weight like he should. Good luck with everything, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/IntermountainMoms, and recommend us to your friends and family too.'
