'Hello and Happy THANKSGIVING my Friends, Welcome to my Southern Kitchen!!  Hope all of you are doing well, staying safe and healthy!!!   Are you a fan of Cabbage and Collard Greens? Today I am making the two Soul Food Classics and combining them into one side dish!   Tender, full of flavor and lots and lots of bacon; great to serve for Thanksgiving Dinner, Soul Food Sunday, or anytime of the year!!!       Ellen’s Thanksgiving Recipes Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdIs070oupdvxweiTwYyp4ClfYqZb78s5     Ellen’s Sweet Cornbread Recipe: https://youtu.be/wUUXPToE4Sw     2 pounds collard greens, cut and rinsed  1 large cabbage, cut and rinsed 1 pound smoked pork or turkey bacon, chopped 2 tbsp canola or vegetable oil (if using turkey bacon) 1 large yellow or white onion, diced 1 large green bell pepper, diced 1 1/2 cups water 1 tbsp garlic powder  1 tsp onion soup mix 2 tsp seasoning salt  1 1/2 tsp white or black pepper      In a large pot over medium-high heat, add bacon (if using turkey bacon, add oil) and fry until brown about 6 minutes. Next add the onions and bell pepper and cook until translucent about 5 minutes. Then add in the cabbage and collard greens and toss together. Pour in the water and sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion soup mix, seasoning salt and pepper; stir until well incorporated. Reduce the heat to medium, cover the pot and cook for 1 hour until the greens are tender (taste for more seasoning). Serve with Cornbread and enjoy!
